Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
As Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Penn State University, Blannie E. Bowen works closely with the Executive Vice President and Provost in areas including faculty development, leadership training, tenure and promotion, executive searches and reviews, and other issues related to academic personnel and their concerns. He also serves as the Provost’s contact person for the Big Ten Academic Alliance, the academic arm of the Big Ten Conference, and for the University Faculty Senate in issues relating to faculty affairs. He also is the official liaison for the President and Provost to the University’s deans and chancellors.
Dr. Bowen began serving as Penn State’s Vice Provost for Academic Affairs in July 2004. Previously at Penn State, Bowen served as head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education in the College of Agricultural Sciences and held the C. Lee Rumberger and Family Chair of Agriculture. He also was associate dean and senior faculty mentor in The Graduate School. More recently, in September 2016, Dr. Bowen was appointed to the Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors. Penn College is a special mission affiliate of Penn State.
Dr. Bowen received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from North Carolina A&T State University and his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, all in agricultural education.
